Delian Systems provide the full range of services that are associated with the various stages in the building and supply of professional database solutions:
1. Requirements analysis The areas of business to be addressed determine the scope of the system, the profile of the users and the manner by which benefits are delivered. This stage establishes the business requirements for the new system from which the overall project plan is prepared.
2. Business design This stage determines the presentation of the database to the users. The menu structure together with the layouts of all of the screens and reports are determined together with the specifications of any background processes and interfaces that are needed.
3. Technical design This more detailed level of design establishes the data tables, the fields within these tables and the relationships that exist between these fields. It is the effectiveness of this data design that determines both the performance of the database and the potential for future growth in both volume and functionality.
4. Development This phase of the project requires the most resources and takes longer to complete than the other phases. In the past, traditionally, this has resulted in a period of reduced contact with the client. Our approach is different. We change this phase into an evolving cycle that actively includes our clients throughout. We can do this by creating a series of prototypes that we install on our client’s PCs so that each iteration can be reviewed in our client’s own time. This approach: · Ensures that all development effort is being applied correctly · Avoids surprises from the final delivery · Achieves early progress in user training and acceptance testing
5. Data conversion Many of our databases replace existing older databases that are not able to adoapt or are no longer supported. These often have valuable data that has built up over many years and needs to be preserved. Providing that the existing database is able to download this data, we will convert it so that it is available immediately the new database is installed thus ensuring continuity of operations. Some databases replace a variety of spreadsheets and we convert these also.
6. Training We provide training as required. This is usually undertaken on a one to one basis. If the number of users is high, we may train the ‘trainers’ who are then able to follow through with their own internal training programme.
7. Implementation support We provide support as soon as live running commences. This consists of a period of time on-site that is then followed by telephone support as needed. The amount of on-site support will vary from project to project depending upon factors such as the system complexity, extent of data conversion needing support and the nature of the acceptance testing where, for example, an accounting based parallel run will require more support than an information system that does not require a periodic process.
8. Maintenance and support These services cover queries reported via telephone or email, system updates and site visits. These services are provided immediately following implementation although there is an initial period before charges are applied. Updates are needed as business needs evolve. We change and add features on request and are able frequently to issue updates via email.
9. Network services We provide a variety of services to assist clients in the setting up and management of their networks.
